The Barbican Gate was built by Anne Catherine, Countess of Antrim (in her own right) in 1825, having been designed by the Morrison brothers as part of her romantic redesign of the Castle and surrounding buildings. In 2004 The Barbican was leased to the Irish Landmark Trust, who have renovated the building and turned it into delightful holiday accommodation.
